Holiday’s certainly have a unique way of completely derailing my routines. Especially ones that are in their infancy stages.
Last week’s plan went nearly according to plan surprisingly! The only thing I switched was I took a rest day from lifting on Thursday. Everything else I wanted to accomplish I was able to when it comes to working out and self-care.
When it comes to writing this newsletter, well not so much as I had little to no available free time to sit down and write unfortunately and now it is already Tuesday when this is going out instead of my hopefully Monday series.
As my two-year-old says often, “that happens sometimes.”
Don’t forget, I am running a Healthy Human Challenge starting on January 9th for 6 weeks where we’ll be focused on building long lasting sustainable habits to make 2023 your fittest year yet! Click the link below to sign up. Space is limited!
Any who here is what I’m hoping or have already done so far this week!
Monday was an upper body lift focused on the bench press. I received a new toy for Christmas, so I took it for its maiden voyage yesterday. I felt super strong and worked up to a pretty easy double at 230. This lift happened a little later in the morning than I had hoped due to an upset stomach of the aforementioned two-year-old that lasted from 9:30 until nearly 11:30 p.m. right as I was about to fall asleep. So, waking up at 5:15 was not in the cards. Thankfully I had the day off from work, so I was able to still get it in.
Tuesday is my lower body session focused on deadlifts. Waking up, not a problem this morning. Strength? Well, that wasn’t great. I missed my last set of deadlifts attempting to pull 365 and I couldn’t budge it for some odd reason. You fail sometimes in the weight room and that is how you grow. My normal basketball routine happened, so my cardio is out of the way.
Now let’s get into the rest of the week’s plans
Wednesday will be my second upper body session of the week which I’ll get in tomorrow morning. Fun upper body workout with a lot of back and arms.
Thursday will most likely be a rest day from lifting and a basketball day at night. Possibly some light mobility work in the morning.
Friday will be my lower body day focused on Bulgarian Split Squats. Check out this top set from last week! I’m pretty proud of this.
Saturday I’ll hope to get my full body lift in and potentially a dunk session since I haven’t had the opportunity to do one in almost two months! I’ll end the day with hopefully a Michigan win vs. TCU.
Sunday will be a rest day and New Year’s Day!
What else am I aiming for in my self care?
Last week I made it a priority to hit the sauna, but this week isn’t looking good. However, I did receive a “HappyLight” for Christmas and am hoping to do some light therapy for 5-10 minutes prior to my morning lifts while I read my book. For those who suffer from seasonal depression or the “winter blues” this is a pretty affordable option that might help!
That is probably the only new thing I’ll add in this week as schedule wise it wouldn’t be ideal to add in anything new.
I would like to carve out some time to write this newsletter this week as well, but unfortunately this might be the only one for this week unless my schedule changes.
Speaking of that, are there any topics you’d like me to discuss heading into the New Year? Let me know!
Thanks & make it a great week!
